I'd say the gospel is the good news of what God did to make sinners acceptable to a Holy God.
That's Easy
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Man is a sinner
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Man needs to know Jesus is God.
John 8:58 I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!
Man needs to know that Jesus paid it all on the cross.
Col 2:14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.
Man must believe Jesus was raised from the dead.
1 Cor 15:4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
Man must believe the Gospel, put saving faith in Christ and repent.
Galatians 2:16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.
Repentance
REPENTANCE begins with a recognition and confession that what God says about us is true- we have sinned against a Holy and Just God.
Psaml 51:3
3 For I know my transgressions,and my sin is always before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.
A genuine recognition of our sinfulness and guilt will aslo lead to a genuine sorrow, and hatred for what we've done.
Roman's 7:24
24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
Apparent sincerity of confession alone is never definite evidence of true repentance. It must be a turning away from sin.
Isaiah 1:16
16 wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong,
FAITH DEFINED
Hebrews 11:1 1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Romans 4:21
21 ...And being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.
FAITH BASED ON THE PROMISES OF GOD
John 3:16
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Acts 16:31 31 They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved you and your household." .
